If you are presently registered with an overseas regulatory authority and meet the Nursing Council requirements, you are eligible to apply for nurse registration in New Zealand.
For internationally qualified nurses, the Nursing Council has updated its application process for Registered Nurses:
All nurses must submit documents verifying their identity, registration, qualifications, and post-registration nursing experience. Additionally, proficiency in English communication is required. If the Council deems a competence assessment necessary for your registration application, you must successfully complete the following
- An online theoretical exam assessing nursing knowledge, administered at an accredited exam center overseas or in New Zealand.
- A two-day orientation and preparation course, followed by a three-hour clinical exam (OSCE - Objective Structured Clinical Exam). These assessments will occur in person in New Zealand at an accredited center.
